Operation Gratitude and 168 Songs That Put You In A Good Mood

About Black Friday…

Last year, my daughter Amanda decided to join the hoards of people on Black Friday. While she got some awesome deals and *really* helped me in the process, the night took a lot out of her. She braved the stores again this year. This time, she took friends with her so they could tag team. I’m sure she got some good deals. One thing I personally find sad though is how Black Friday is becoming Black Thanksgiving. Black Friday is one thing but when stores announce they will open as early as 8:00pm on Thanksgiving Day, it takes away from the meaning of Thanksgiving: To Give THANKS. I feel this takes commercialism to a whole new level. On the other hand… stores do make shopping this day enticing and you can save quite a bit of money. I can’t help but wonder though…What if everyone took this time to sit and send positive energy out into the world. Imagine if everyone did this at the same time. What a positive impact this would have for all of us. Now, that is a gift! This season is about giving thanks and I hope you take time to give thanks and make a difference in the lives of others every day of the year!

There are so many organizations and individuals selflessly giving their time, talents, money and much needed items. One organization making a difference around the world is Job’s Daughters International in California. This https://www.tandyelisala.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/operation_gratitude1-300x200.jpgquality girls’ youth group and their adult advisers started CAJD Operation Gratitude this month and they are on their way to sending 10,000 care packages. Operation Gratitude seeks to lift morale and put smiles on faces by sending care packages to men and women overseas. Care packages are sent to Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines deployed in harms way, to their children left behind, and to Wounded Warriors recuperating in Transition Units. Operation Gratitude care packages contain food, hygiene products, entertainment items and personal letters of appreciation, all wrapped with good wishes of love and support. The Battalion Buddy packages are given to each child at their parent’s pre-deployment farewell event so the child has something to hug and hold while their Mom or Dad is away.  You can check out their facebook page here. I know they would appreciate all help.

Another organization making a difference is “Project Service: Changing The World One Hour At A Time.” Lindsey Hardison was moved to create this organization which challenges individuals to change the world by volunteering just one hour of their time to provide a service of their choosing to a recipient of their choosing. People pledge who and how they are going to serve, post this information on Project Service facebook page and report back to everyone with a post sharing what they did and how their volunteerism impacted the recipient. The minimum goal is to have at least one person from each of the fifty states step up and serve and then each will invite a friend to do the same. In a month’s time, Lindsey has engaged partners in different countries! That’s powerful. Lindsey believes we can change the world one hour at a time. I believe her. For more information, look up “Project Service: Changing The World” on facebook to connect with this worthy organization.

This week, Southwest Airlines, along with BP and amazing volunteers, donated a plane, fuel, staff and time to relocate over 60 cats and dogs orphaned from Hurricane Sandy.

There are countless people making a difference in others’ lives every single day. I hope this creates a spark in you to get involved in some way. If you or someone you know is making a difference, please let me know. I’d love to highlight these stories in future newsletters.

Lastly, knowing the holidays can be stressful, I have two lists to share with you. The first list contains 100 songs compiled by the folks at Gather Essentials to put you in a good mood. The second list contains 68 carefully selected songs I compiled to help put you in a good mood. ’68 was a good year.  May a song or two inspire you to sing out loud or dance like nobody is watching. You will learn a lot about me as you review my, well, diverse list. Enjoy!
