How To Go From KNOWING Your Purpose To LIVING It

How-to-o-from-knowing-your-purpose-to-living-it-Tandy-Elisala

We’ve been focused this month on your life purpose. We’ve explored different aspects of discovering and living your purpose. There is a difference between KNOWING your purpose and LIVING it. This article shares specific tips to help you gracefully move from knowing to living your passion and purpose.

1. Determine what you need to learn

Once you know your purpose, there will likely be things you need to learn to achieve your goals with excellence. Anything worth doing is worth doing well. You may determine you are operating at a level 5 with said purpose and need to learn new skills to develop into an 8 or 9. When I started my online business, I needed to learn about email marketing, websites, sales pages, plugins, content marketing and endless other things. Before I wrote and published my first book, I needed to learn about the entire process from writing, editing, more editing, more editing, design covers, amazon author pages, publishing process, how different size books impact everything, color vs. black and white, typeface, and much more. Before I ventured off into these things, I took time to research and write down everything I needed to learn.

ACTION STEP: Set time aside to research your topic and write down what you need to learn and keep this list handy as we move to the next tip.

2. Schedule learning (put pen to paper)

Now that you have a list of everything you need to learn (or anticipate as much as you can), you must put pen to paper (or fingers to your electronic scheduling system) and schedule time to learn. This is such an important step. If you don’t schedule it, it’s not going to happen. “Life” will happen and there will be excuse after excuse as to why you don’t have time to pursue your dreams. Remember that we invest time on things we value. Click To Tweet

How badly do you want it? Do you want to end your life in regret; thinking about all the things you ‘could’ve’ or ‘should’ve’ done or are you going to invest the time NOW so you experience peace and true joy?

ACTION STEP: Schedule it. Do it today. It may take a month to get through things. It may take a year. Whatever it takes, do it.

3. Take imperfect action

Now that you’ve identified what you need to learn and scheduled it, it’s time to take action. Perfectionism and procrastination can stop us in our tracks and prevent us from going after our dreams. Taking action requires determination and courage. It requires you to show up and keep going when obstacles happen. It requires self motivation and a commitment to your big WHY. Refuse to let fear of any kind hold you back.

ACTION STEP: Take action. Make consistent progress toward your purpose. Are you seeing a theme of ‘action’ here!!?

4. Hire a coach or get an accountability partner

There’s a lot to be said for investing in yourself. I have found that the more I invest in myself and my growth, the more growth I experience. It’s about mindset. It’s about self-worth and self-love. It’s about commitment. It’s about accountability. Having an accountability partner really does help keep you on track. Find someone who will serve and support you on this journey towards your life purpose. If you feel you may need extra support, guidance or coaching to help you on your journey, I invite you to click -> schedule a discovery call and I’d love to discuss your goals with you, what might be holding you back and how you can lift your life to greatness!

My last piece of advice about knowing your purpose and living it

Refuse to compare yourself to ANYONE else. When we compare ourselves to others, we are comparing our level 1 to someone else’s level 20. Remember that YOU are the only one that knows what you know and how you know it. You matter. You are here for a very special purpose. Remember THAT.

This was presented well and simple. It can be mind boggling for some but of course, but once you have the clarity, you will be able to see that is not really complicated if your heart is in it.

    Hi Tandy,

I’m doing more and more things I enjoy and that are authentically me. Because of this shift, it has helped me to be a better wife, mother and service professional to my clients. One of the ways I stay grounded and focused is daily journaling. It helps me to breath in more of my purpose and attract my best life!

The learning part is no problem for me; I’m a life-long learner. Sometimes it’s the implementation that I struggle with. The idea of an accountability partner is great.

I’m a lifelong learner too, Carol. I hear ya’ about implementation. What can you do to take ONE action towards your intentions/goals? Accountability is key.

You make so many good points here Tandy. In particular I feel that scheduling the learning is key. When I stay on track and do this I feel so much better about my progress. Plus I like that you group procrastination and perfection together. They can both derail us!

I’m so glad this article resonated for you, Alene. Procrastination and perfection can definitely derail us. It’s when we work and push past our fears and take imperfection action that we make true progress.

Definitely one of those things that I recount on a regular basis. Things change. Maybe not drastically but in 5 years, my goals in life changed. Things that I thought were urgent were so urgent anymore. Other things were. So I shifted. However, that was only a way to what my IDENTIFYING PURPOSE and THAT didn’t change.

Things definitely change. It’s enlightening how things that were super important to us in the past either becomes stronger for us or suddenly doesn’t matter anymore. This is as it should be. If our goals don’t change, we aren’t growing. Way to go identifying your purpose and sticking true to THAT!

I really am happy to see you write “Take imperfect action” Tandy. So many of us don’t create anything because it is not perfect. With my clients I often encourage them to bring the bar way down. They can still jump as high but when the bar is lowered, they are less stressed and the anticipation doesn’t paralyze them.

Thanks, Candess. Taking imperfect action has been my mantra for getting stuff done. We can’t improve on something until we release it out into the world.

I agree with you, perfection prevents progress. Nothing is crazier than comparison to someone else. As unique individuals, we are unique in so many ways, yet we share many commonalities.
It is absurd to believe the commonalities mean to compare self with others. When it is the me with me, comparing the growth from yesterday, last year, 10 years ago has more meaning. I have more in common with me than I do with anyone else, so I can look at where I dipped where I may have jumped or vice versa. I am a status quo changer so I believe in being responsible for everything with me.
It’s okay for me to compare me.

YES!!! It’s okay to compare yourself with yourself. Love that. It’s all about becoming the best version of ourselves.
