52 Weeks of Happiness: List 9 Things That Bring You Joy

52 Week sof Happiness

It’s week nine of 52 Lists for Happiness: Weekly Journaling for Inspiration and Positivity by Moorea Seal.

This list is to identify all the things that happened, either today, this week, this month, this year, that brought you joy. I wanted to do mine on over the last month, month and a half that brought me joy. Here’s my video about this list if you prefer watching over reading.  The first was seeing my oldest daughter Amanda, who’s 28, really enjoy the Harry Potter exhibit at California Adventure. Seeing her face light up when we walked in was just so magical.

She said, “Every little detail that I imagined from the books and movies exceeds my expectations here.” Everything. It was wonderful. To see her light up and to see her inner child come out and play and to see her literally shaking because she was so happy… that really made me smile. The next is when my kids laugh together. When Amanda, Sarah and Steven all laugh together, it’s contagious and it’s just … when one person starts laughing, the rest follow suit. Has that ever happened to you?

Laughter… we all need more laughter and humor in our every day life. When my kids all are together and they’re laughing and they’re having fun, which is most of the time, it’s really gratifying for me. It really brings me joy. The next is seeing our cat Emma stretched out. Sometimes, you know how cats put their paw over their face, it’s just beautiful.  She really knows how to stretch and strut, and get attention.

The next thing that has brought me joy recently is watching videos and funny movies. Next up is painting. I painted a few things a couple months ago. I went to a painting thing with my daughter, and we painted a tree of life. Then late last month, I went to a love and kindness painting party, and it was really calming. Here are a few pictures of my creations.

The next thing that brings me joy is my dog Roxie. She brings me joy all day every day, and I love her, so much.

The other thing that has brought me joy recently were cards. I got some cards in the mail from a couple of friends, Jerry and Jessica, and that, you know, means the world to me. Seeing movies, you know, we went and saw, ah man, of course, oh Boss Babies and ah man, I forget the others, but there were a few movies that we’ve seen recently that were really funny and well worth it. That’s my list.

It’s Your Turn

Here’s my action for you, is to find … for every day this week write down one thing that brought you joy. Then, put it in a jar of some kind. Like, I call it a success jar, put that piece of paper in your jar, and either at the end of the week, the end of the month, or the end of the year, have a big self love fest. Open up the jar and pull all the pieces of paper out, and really celebrate your life, and the things that bring you the most joy.

I love this idea. I love funny movies too. I would prefer them anytime.

My recent joy was taking my father and family members to an out of town trip to a place called Hundred Islands. My father is 87 and it was rough for him to get in and out of the boat but I am sure he had fun. He has never been there before.

Hi Jennifer, yes, when I used my success jar to open up the comments weekly, it really helped me through some difficult times. It doesn’t have to be that way though. You can use a weekly inspiration jar for just that… weekly inspiration and a way to remind yourself how magnificent you really are.

What a great post. I loved reading the things that brought you joy. Life passes us by all to quickly and it’s easy not to notice or appreciate the good things.

I used to be a real negative thinker and after doing lots of personal development and exercises like the one you described has really changed that. I have so many things to be joyful of this week.

It sounds like you are revelling in joy, Tandy, which is lovely to read and I am sure to feel too. Like you our dog and our two cats, always bring me joy! There is something about animals that lightens the mood and brings a lightness to the day. I’ve had several random invites in the last week or so, and that surprises me and makes me grateful that somehow, without my knowing it, my writing and my health and wellness message are being seen and heard. Joy for me is often fleeting. I live in wonder and marvel at many things, including my recent trip to New York and seeing my daughter perform at Carnegie Hall, although not all things are joyful. That experience at Carnegie Hall definitely was! Thanks for the reminder and the encouragement to refocus to see the joy in our lives!

What a fabulous list of joyful memories, Tandy. Isn’t it wonderful when something, like the Harry Potter exhibition, inspires the inner child to come out and play? I can so identify with the joy of hearing your kids laugh together. I absolutely adore the moments when my three adult sons are clowning around together like they were kids again. Creative pursuits always inspire joy in me, as does my little pooch, who recently turned 15 – so every day we have her is an absolute blessing. I really love your joy jar idea.

Yes, it is the greatest feeling in the world seeing your kids so happy! I’m so grateful for my hearing (and all my senses) so I can hear the laughter of kids every day. I smile thinking about your 3 adult sons clowning around together as that’s what my kids do too. Glad you like the joy/success jar idea!
